Original story:

For past couple of days, Redditors have been highlighting a behavioral change in Google Assistant – the confirmation step while setting up new reminders has been terminated. The change has been confirmed by multiple Redditors across different threads, with some saying:

I just set a reminder, using Google Assistant as I always do, and THIS TIME, for the first time, it went through right away without me having to confirm everything

Before, it would always ask “do you want to save this?” And you had to say yes again to save, now it doesn’t do that anymore!

The following user shared video clearly showcases the Assistant’s changed behavior when asked to set up a reminder (00:05 sec on wards):

For the record, here’s how setting reminders acted earlier, specifically asking for confirmation:

Moving on, as can be seen in the first video, unlike earlier, now “show me my reminders” command makes Assistant show all reminders for today. You need to use the “show me ALL my reminders” command for Assistant to bring up all your reminders.

Now, on a side note: I have noticed days ago behavioural changes in Google Assistant: when I was asking “show me my reminders”, instead of just opening the screen with listed all my reminders (as it always did), it started to tell me “you got no reminders for today”. And that really pissed me off, because I wanted to hear about ALL my reminders. Anyway, just discovered now that I just need to add “show me ALL my reminders” and it will tell me my future reminders. So, all good

New bug?

Along with the aforementioned changes, Google Assistant users have also been chiming about an out of order feature – ‘done’ option to suspend a reminder notification isn’t working as intended.

Going by the reports, despite selecting ‘done’, the reminders continue to show up (unless manually deleted from the reminders list, as confirmed by at least a couple of affected users). Following are some of the users comments and tweets complaining about the same:

Another thing that probably is related to these server-side changes, is the fact that it seems they somehow broke the “finish/done” button on the reminder notification. Instead of setting it as “done”, it just snoozes it (as I have read a lot of ppl complaining about this, I think it’s not just me). Anyway for me going to the reminders list and deleting it (not just marking it as done, which anyway is not possible from that list) worked (I don’t get anymore notifications from old reminders which I set as “done” hours/days ago after having deleted them)

Along with that, even on pressing done, my reminder keeps popping up

Oh my god this is so annoying. Every time i get a notification for a new reminder, it shows up alongside a bunch of “done” ones from the past few days

I had the same thing happen to one reminder, you need to swipe the notification away instead of pressing “done”, at least that’s what finally worked for me

You need to go into the reminders list and delete it. Just marking it done won’t do it

And, in some cases, even the deleted ones continue to show up:

Hi, just recently after updating to Feb patch everytime I tell Google assistant to remind me of something, all of my past reminders, even ones I deleted, also come up. Additionally, what is even weirder is sometimes it just reminds me of old reminders that I deleted at random times, even though my reminders are empty

While users are appreciating the simplified reminder setting process, they are equally baffled with the expired notifications popping again, and the ‘done’ button acting dumb. We hope Google gives clarity on the matter soon. If you are facing any such reminder-related issues don’t forget to leave a comment below.
