Original story (published on February 22, 2023) follows:
Gmail is a free email service by Google that was launched in 2004. It has gradually become one of the most popular and reliable email services worldwide, with more than 1.8 billion active users as of 2021.
It offers various features such as spam protection, automatic sorting of emails into categories, and integration with other Google services like Google Drive and Google Calendar.
Gmail users unable to sync Hotmail or Outlook account
However, some Gmail users are reporting (1, 2, 3) issues with syncing their Hotmail or Outlook accounts on the Gmail Android app.
This issue is inconveniencing those who rely on the Gmail app to manage all email accounts in one place.
According to user reports, the Gmail app is showing an error message stating that ‘last sync; an unknown error occurred’. This means that the app is unable to connect to the email server to retrieve emails and other data.
Hi guys when i add the outlook account it doesn’t sync (unable to sync this folder). I reinstalled, cleaned cache, set manually the imap but nothing… someone has resolved this? (Source)
There was a problem syncing this folder please try again later. I have donr everything in the help files at least 3 times. Still won’t sync. I also have a Gmail and yahoo account in the app and thos work perfectly. (Source)
While the actual cause of this issue is unknown, it is anticipated that this is happening after a recent bug where the inbox of Outlook users was flooded with junk or spam emails.
Unfortunately, neither Google nor Microsoft has acknowledged this problem. However, some users have managed (1, 2, 3) to work around it by using Outlook app on Android. Hence, you can also try this potential solution.
Rest assured, we will keep tabs on the latest developments on this matter and update the article as and when anything noteworthy comes to our notice.
