Of late, Gmail users report that they are unable to add contacts info from received .vcf attachment, as an import contacts error shows up. Specifically, when they hover over the attachment and then click the Add to contacts icon, a notification stating “An unknown error occurred while importing your contact” pops up.

The problem occurs irrespective of the account type (be it a G suite or personal Gmail account) and OS being used. The issue was first reported on May 16, 2017. On July 11, 2017 an employee from Google confirmed the bug by saying:

“Our team is currently working on this issue, and we’ll provide updates here as the investigation progresses”.

It’s clear that Google is aware and working on fixing the problem. But, there is no information as to by when the issue will be resolved. If you are among the ones complaining of Gmail’ import contacts error not letting you add new contacts, keep a tab here as we’ll keep you posted in case of any further developments.
