This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (May 5) follows:
Xiaomi has already released several beta updates based on the latest MIUI 12 ROM. The testing is still a China thing, but you can always try the new skin on your global Mi, Redmi, or even Poco handset using this guide.
Speaking of the global MIUI 12 update, the official Xiaomi Twitter handle recently requested over 3,000 retweets on a tweet in order to reveal the official release date. But even after the loyal Mi fan base on Twitter hit the target, we still wait for the official announcement.
A Mi forum moderator recently revealed that the global MIUI 12 update “launch is near” but gave no date. In the smartphone software update world, we all know near could mean anything between days to weeks.
And indeed, going by what Xiaomi Indonesia GM, Alvin Tse, recently tweeted regarding the availability of the Redmi Note 8 Android 10 update, it looks like the wait for the global MIUI 12 update to roll out could go all the way to July 2020.
If you are a little lost, allow me to bring you back on track. The Redmi Note 8 has yet to receive the update to Android 10. But Xiaomi has promised to deliver the OS as part of the MIUI 12 update for the device.
Given the 10 update is expected in July, it makes sense to assume that the global MIUI 12 update will also be ready to roll out then. To further add more weight to this assumption, the stable update for the China ROM is expected in late June, so it’s only fitting that the global ROM arrives in July.
It would have made sense to expect the global ROM to arrive a little earlier than July, but this would only have stood if the global beta testing channel was still alive. Unfortunately, it no longer lives on, and instead, users can expect a near-stable version when the software begins rolling out.
