The concept of loot boxes gained attraction with the release of Overwatch, but it has become a household name nowadays due to the monumental popularity of online battle royale games. Gamers often criticize publishers for this pay-to-win formula, but hey! The recipe is doing good for them, so what’s the point of ditching it?
Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, went one step further and introduced ‘hot spots’ to embrace the loot box culture inside the universe. Added as part of version 9.10 update in May during Season 9, these hot spots are “Randomly selected locations on the map that have a high loot rate with an increase of Supply Drops!”.
The tenth season aka Season X of Fortnite is here, which is now stimulated by the newly introduced “Smash & Grab” challenges. Interestingly, two out of these seven challenges have extensive relation with the hot spots.
Combining two ‘Prestige’ counterparts, there are four total challenges. However, the ‘Prestige’ ones can only be accessed if you complete all those seven “Smash & Grab” hurdles. The tasks are as follows:
– Land at a Hot Spot in different matches (0/3)
– Deal damage to opponents at Hot Spots (0/200)
– Destroy Loot Carriers within 60 seconds after landing from the Battle Bus
– Eliminate an opponent at a Hot Spot (0/3)
Now the question remains: how to find these places? Fortunately the map can be a useful tool. Players should find one (or more) points of interest with golden naming instead of typical black and/or white. These randomly chosen points are none but your precious Fortnite hot spots.
Remember, more and more players are targeting these areas to get their hands on the easy supply of chests or ammo boxes. Be prepared by carrying a handful of weapons to defend yourself before opting for those loot boxes. The carrier drones can be pretty effective too!
