OnePlus working to fix OnePlus 5/5T camera freezing (stuck at saving) issue after recording video, says staff member

OnePlus devices (except the Nord-line-up) always come with the highest-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 800-series chips. This means that many years down the line, the devices remain fairly capable.

It is for this reason that older OnePlus devices such as OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T are still chugging along diligently out in the wild, three years after launch.

The devices have since received all their promised major Android updates and at the time of writing, they both run Android 10-based OxygenOS 10. From the look of things, this could be the end of the line, at least officially.

Luckily though, OnePlus is still obligated to maintain the devices with regular security patches for a few more months so users shouldn’t feel left out entirely.

We know that no single piece of firmware is perfect and as such, there are bound to be a few issues here and there from time to time.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T aren’t exempted as users of these two devices have been facing a rather annoying issue that affects the device’s camera.

According to affected users, the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T camera has a freezing issue when saving photos. The issue is more pronounced when saving videos.

I recently updated to the last version of oxygen OS. And now, when I take a video in 4k or in 1080p 60 fps, the time to save this video is about 15 seconds. I use the camera app from oneplus.

Anytime a video is recorded on the phone, it takes almost 4min to save the video to the phone even if the video is only 30sec long. While the video is saving you cannot exit the save screen otherwise the video is lost/corrupted.

Some of the affected users note that the issue seems to have emanated from the recent OxygenOS 10.0.1 update.

Whenever I shoot a video on my phone after upgrade it’s not saving the videos. Saving… appears on the screen for long time and then the phone restarts.

Reports of this issue continue to come to light (1,2,3) as more and more users note that the issue results in unsaved videos or corrupt video files in the rare events that the video successfully gets saved.

This has since been brought to the attention of OnePlus and in response to one of the user complaints, OnePlus, through a staff member, notes that the issue is being worked on.
