Mozilla Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers across the globe. People use it across different platforms including Apple‘s iPadOS.
However, an issue with the Firefox keyboard shortcuts has been spoiling the user experience for iPad users for some time now.
As per multiple reports, Firefox for iPadOS opens two new tabs or duplicates an already opened one when using Apple Magic Keyboard or Smart Folio Keyboard.
Basically, the cmd and T or Strg + T command on the Apple Magic/Smart Folio Keyboard opens two new tabs in Firefox for iPadOS instead of one.
Also, some reports even outline that the cmd + R or Strg + W command duplicates an already opened tab instead of refreshing or closing the current one.

@FirefoxSupport a real and incredibly distracting bug in Firefox for iPadOS, is the development team aware of this? Blank or duplicate tabs open sporadically, many times per hour, while using the browser.

It is unclear what the exact cause of this problem is but Mozilla has been working to resolve it since October 2020.
Now, Firefox support has once again acknowledged the issue stating that it is being looked into on priority.
Thus, it is possible that the problem where two new tabs or duplicate tabs open up might get fixed in the near future.
However, this is still based on speculation as the issue is being worked upon for quite some time without no resolution so far.
Moreover, there is currently no workaround for this problem which is further adding to users’ dilemma.
Hopefully, Mozilla soon releases a proper fix for this issue so that iPad users with Apple Magic/Smart Folio Keyboard can use Firefox without any hassle.
That said, we will report back with more details as and when we get new information to share so stay tuned.
