Filmic Pro is undoubtedly one of the most feature-rich smartphone filmmaking apps. It recently released its seventh iteration with a new UI, a brand-new user-assignable function button, and more.
It is available for both iOS and Android users to download. However, it has come to the notice of some users that a subscription model has just replaced lifetime licenses for the software.
Filmic Pro v7 subscription model faces backlash from users
This has infuriated a number of users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) since they believe they had paid for the app once and are asked to pay on a monthly basis with the v7 update again.
I ran into that this past weekend and it was so frustrating. I paid for the old filmic pro so this bait and switch makes me not want to use them anymore.

Thanks for taking my money when I purchased this app and then years later made the app a subscription. Eat it. Give me my money back.

The team’s decision to go from a one-time purchase to a weekly membership is extremely disheartening. While others feel that they should have developed a new app with the subscription rather than modifying the Filmic Pro.
Some users are even switching to other apps now as they feel it was unnecessary for Filmic Pro to introduce the subscription model.
The platform now offers Filmic Legacy, which is basically Filmic Pro v6 for existing users who decide not to upgrade to v7. But v7 doesn’t let them export files to Filmic Legacy without getting a subscription.
Although users can record on the Filmic Pro app, they must subscribe in order to export their recordings.
So crucially, what was formerly a premium app (Filmic Pro) is now a sample version for them.
It seems that the developers haven’t commented on the matter regarding the angered state of users’ minds about the new Filmic Pro v7 subscription model yet.
That said, we’ll keep an eye on further developments and reflect the same here so stay tuned for more.
