Facebook is like a store house of treasured memories, with users uploading and sharing pictures, videos and other personal data every now and then. And when it comes to creating a backup of what you fed Facebook with over the years, the service’s Web client offers you an option to download a copy of all your data (something which you can do by accessing the ‘Download a copy’ option in General settings).

feature

Sadly, there has been no such option in the Facebook app. But that apparently is no longer the case, as ‘Download your information’ tool is making way to the app as well.

Just a few hours back, developer Jane Manchun Wong informed about the arrival of the tool through a tweet, detailing that it will allow the app users to download all their data or some selective information, in either HTML or JSON format.

The image of the feature shared by Jane reads:

You can download a copy of your Facebook information at any time. You can download all of it at once, or you can select only the types of information and date ranges you want. You can choose to receive your information in an HTML format that is easy to view, or a JSON format, which could allow another service to more easily import it.

For the record, here’s the tweet in question:

In fact, at-least one user confirmed (while replying to Jane’s tweet) that the feature is already live for them and some of their friends/colleagues.

We’ve reached out to the user for more info on the feature, and will update the story as and when we get the info. To conclude, this is certainly good news for Facebook app users. What’s your thoughts on the functionality. Share with us in the comments section below.
