Apple recently unveiled the new iPad Pro, iPhone 12 (purple), iMac, Apple TV 4K, and AirTag.

While users are quite fond of the Apple iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and iMac, a petty issue has been spoiling the user experience for quite some time.

Every now and then, users keep on reporting about the poor implementation of the drag and drop functionality in Apple’s macOS, iOS, and iPadOS.

Now, another Reddit thread has users reporting about the drag and drop problems they are facing on their macOS, iOS, and iPadOS running devices.

As per multiple reports, users are unable to drag and drop apps in the Launchpad folders which keep on shifting when an app is dragged over them.

Oh christ, and on an iPhone? Where I want it in the folder that’s the last slot on the page so it moves to the next page? And then I go to the next page and it moves back?

It might appear that this is a small issue but the number of reports on the Reddit thread clearly indicates that users have had enough of it.

Some reports even outline that the said issue has been around for ages and Apple has literally done nothing to resolve it.

Also, there has not been any sort of acknowledgement from the tech giant which further indicates that such reports might have been going unnoticed.

I’m surprised they haven’t managed to perfect a system that’s been in operating systems for 25 years now

This is why users have now come up with their own ways to deal with the said nuisance. While some users are still trying to figure out the right way to drag and drop items, others have simply stopped using the functionality altogether.

On the other hand, workarounds like slowly dragging and dropping an app in a folder from the top, bottom, or left side seem to be working for some.

It is, however, unclear why Apple has not been able to fine tune the drag and drop functionality after all these years.

If it happens again, just release the app, then try it again

You’ll be a lot happier if you just drag your Applications folder to the Dock. You can choose how it gets displayed with a secondary click: as a list, grid, or stack. (Personally I use list view.) Then you just organize your apps directly in the Finder.

User-workarounds

Hopefully, the tech giant listens to users’ requests and fix the small yet prominent problem in the future.

That said, we will be back with more such stories as and when new information becomes available so stay tuned.
