Content streaming has seen a pretty big boom over the past year or so, a scenario that has, no doubt, been further fueled by the global crisis that is COVID-19.

Today, more and more people stay at home, working from home and consuming a lot of content in the process. Luckily, there is no shortage of content streaming platforms on the interwebs.

One such platform is Disney-owned Hotstar. For the uninitiated, Hotstar is an Indian subscription video-on-demand streaming service operated by Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, which is a division of The Walt Disney Company.

Now, it is coming to light that users of this Disney+ Hotstar platform using LG Smart TVs are facing an issue trying to access the service.

Here’s the gist of the issue. So apparently, LG Smart TV users aren’t able to access the Disney+ Hotstar app on their units.

On launching the app, the TV throws up an error message saying that undefined is not a function (see above image or Tweet below.)

Interestingly, a user of this Disney+ Hotstar service is also facing a similar issue on a Sony smart TV.

As more and more reports on this issue continue to surface, it looks like Disney+ Hotstar has taken note. Support on Twitter has confirmed this issue, noting that it has been forwarded to the developers.

We’ve highlighted this to our Dev team and will let you know as soon as the issue is resolved. Thanks for your understanding and patience.

A new interesting twist comes when Disney+ Hotstar Support tells this user that the service only supports WebOS 4.0 and later.

Could these users be facing this issue because they’re now running an unsupported version of WebOS on their LG Smart TVs?

Well, we might have to wait for official communication from LG or Disney+ Hotstar before we can confidently say this.

In the meantime, we shall continue to keep an eye on this and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
