[Updated: Aug 27] Destiny 2 player search function & Ether collection encounter of Astral alignment disabled temporarily to fix bugs

Developed by the Microsoft-owned studio Bungie, Destiny 2 is an online multiplayer first-person shooting game.

The game was released in 2019 on Steam and went on to win the Game Critics Award for Best Ongoing Game in the same year.

Destiny 2 offers both PvP and PvE, with players taking on the role of Guardians. They can choose from three classes, namely, Titan, Warlock, and Hunter.

Recently, Destiny 2 developers introduced cross-play functionality that allows players across Stadia, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox to play with each other.

But it looks like Destiny 2 crossplay has had a rough start. Players are now reporting an issue with the search function in the in-game Roster tab.

Users are saying that they are unable to find other players using the search function. This is really disheartening for those who were excited to play the game with their console friends.

Why when i search for the name of someone in another platform, it says that it cant be found or when he does it is the same thing? Thx

Every time I try and search my brothers name on the search bar it says player not found is that happening for anyone else? He’s on Xbox I’m on PC and I’m using his Bungie account name

Fortunately, Bungie quickly acknowledged the Destiny 2 issue on its Twitter page and said that they have temporarily disabled the player search function.

If you want to search for other players, you can do so right now on the Bungie.net website.

While the quick acknowledgment is appreciated, players who do not use Twitter shouldn’t have been left out in the dark.

As if it wasn’t enough, players are also reporting an issue with the Ether Collection encounter of the Astral Alignment activity.

According to reports, players say that they are unable to complete the activity. Those who have tried to complete the activity say that the bar is stuck and enemies no longer spawn.

While others suggest that sometimes enemies despawn too early, there aren’t enough enemies to fill the bar and sometimes the boss just freezes and stops taking damage.

Am I just unlucky or is this activity a broken mess? Every single time I’ve joined, there’s a bunch of Taken, three immune guys and literally no instruction about what I should be doing? There’s a progress bar which sits at 90% for 15 minutes, which is usually the point where I go back to orbit.

There’s some talk about batteries but no indication about what they could be. Are we supposed to come to some sort of personal revelation that self confidence is the real battery which was inside us the whole time? Maybe Friendship is the battery?

Missions can’t be completed because they just randomly stop and you’re just sitting there waiting for the mission to continue. This has happened on the Batteries and Ether phases multiple times.

Turns out, Bungie is aware of the issue and working on fixing the game. Like the player search function, the Ether Collection encounter of the Astral Alignment activity will be disabled at 10 AM PDT on August 25.

In the meantime, Bungie has asked players not to destroy all the ether wisps if they want to complete the encounter.

Destiny 2 players seem really frustrated with the player search function temporarily disabled. Instead of making the announcement on Twitter exclusively, the developers should have put out a PSA on their website and official app.

IST 11:15 am: Bungie Help on Twitter has come out to acknowledge a few bugs and issues as the second day of Season of the Lost is underway.

On the matter of the Astral alignment being disabled temporarily to fix bugs, Bungie has this to say.

– In the Astral Alignment activity, there can be an extensive delay between opening the final chest and receiving the activity rewards.
– In the Astral Alignment activity, joining an encounter in progress will block players from completing the encounter.

IST 11:05 am: Bungie Help on Twitter is now advising players who got blocked in the battery portion of the Astral Alignment activity to return to orbit. Also added is that the company has removed the option for players to join an in-progress activity.

Players who become blocked in the battery portion of the Astral Alignment activity need to return to Orbit. As a way to reduce these blocks, we have removed the option for players to join the activity if it’s already in progress.
