Character.AI is a popular chatbot web application that is based on a neural language model. It can easily create human-like text responses and engage in contextual conversations.

However, some are unhappy with Character.AI’s bots.

Character.AI users say bots lack initiative or are boring

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), multiple Character.AI users are of the view that the platform’s bots lack initiative or are boring.

Allegedly, the bots designed by the company rely heavily on user input and are not as creative as they used to be. Also, the interactions appear as one-sided as the bots mostly just respond.

One of those affected says that the AI makes up stuff and paraphrases and describes things in a complex manner. They also mention that the bot’s responses are sloppy, at times making no sense at all.

Another user alleges that the character they designed is unable to bring up new topics or take initiative to ask them new or interesting questions.

Those affected are now requesting the developers to bring improvements to the platform’s bots. Doing so will help users be engaged with them like they earlier were.

It is worth mentioning that some (1,2) claim to have witnessed improvements but unfortunately, they were not up to the mark.

We do hope that Character.AI will listen to the user requests and enhance the platform further.
