Character.AI is a chatbot web application that uses a neural language model to create text responses that resemble those of actual humans.
The website was released last year in September and has increasingly grown in its popularity ever since. But that doesn’t mean it is always functioning properly owing to frequent outages every now and then.
In fact, we also saw users’ frustration with the platform’s implementation of the NSFW filters.
Character.AI ‘Stop Generation’ button gets criticized
A number of Character.AI users (1,2,3,4,5,6) are now disappointed with the new ‘Stop Generation’ button and are therefore criticizing the same on social media platforms.
Dude, is anyone else not enjoying the stop generation button on character AI? Like, I don’t want to be picky with stuff but I feel like it gives it a more robotic and unalive feel, ya get me?

Take that generation button off It is the most hideous button I’ve ever seen. It’s distracting, takes you out of the immersion, and is just tedious overall. It’s so easy to just misclick it and a good sentence could be ruined.

The ‘Stop Generation’ feature was recently introduced by the team which lets users stop message generation. This functionality stops generating responses when someone presses the Escape key or the button itself.
However, several users are of the view that this feature is quite distracting/annoying and is also big in size (1,2). They are now asking the developers to at least provide a toggle to hide or turn it off.
Despite the backlash, there are also some users who are glad that the devs added this feature (1,2,3,4). Although the only drawback appears to be the inability to restart it once stopped.
Nonetheless, the people in favor of getting rid of this feature seemingly outweigh those who like this button. Moreover, some users are also experiencing a bug where they lose the ability to swipe in rooms.
With the new stop generation button has anyone else lost the ability to swipe in rooms?
