A new issue plaguing the OnePlus 5T has come to light. According to a bug filed by a user on the company’s official forum website, if a carrier or network undergoes a name change (i.e, it rebrands itself), the device continues to display the old/outdated name.

While that may not seem a very big problem, what’s concerning is the complainant says their OnePlus 5T cannot access roaming data on the network after name change. Here’s their exact complaint:

The network METEOR rebranded to EIR recently. On the 3T, its already showing the correct name EIR, while the 5T still shows the outdated METEOR name. This was tested with the same sim card. The new name became active on the 3T with the OREO update.

The problem was reported in May, and a member of the OnePlus Bug Hunter team immediately passed it on to the company’s development team. Then last month, they asked the complainant if the problem persists after the update that was pushed around the same time.

Sorry to bother you. We wonder to know if the issue still persists. Since we’re highly concerned about the issue, if the issue still persists, it will be greatly appreciated if you can provide log for our further investigation

After the complainant recently confirmed the problem persists even after last week’s update, the Bug Hunter team member said the OnePlus development team is “working on it.”

Thank you for your update. The dev team is working on it. We have urged our engineers to deal with it. If there is any update, I will let you know. So sorry for the inconvenience caused.

This is clearly a corner case, so it won’t be affecting a large number of OnePlus 5T users. But as a OnePlus 5T owner, you should at least be aware of it. What’s good is the company is on it, so the problem should be fixed soon. We’ll let you know as and when that happens. Until then, keep watching this space.
