You can now initiate a call directly from within Gmail

Tired of copy-pasting contact information received in emails to other apps? Not anymore, if you are on Gmail. Google’s latest update has given its mail client the ability to detect and convert text like phone numbers, addresses, and email addresses into interactive hyperlinks.

Such links will be clickable, and will act depending upon the information they contain. For example, you’ll be able to search the location of an address shared in the email just by clicking on it – the action will take you to Google Maps window right away.

Moving on, you can now also directly send mail to an email address shared on Gmail. Just click on the link, and the compose email window (of your default email client) will show up.

Last but not the least, Gmail users on Android and iOS will now just have to click a hyperlink containing a phone number to initiate a call request to that number. Needless to say, the call will be placed using the device’s default phone app.

So be it calling someone, searching an address, or sending an email message, the new update is aimed at saving users’ time. The update is currently rolling out (will take 1-3 days as per the company) for both Gmail and Inbox by Gmail on Android, iOS as well as the Web.
