Years of memories backed up on Google Photos are disappearing. Despite being reported continuously for more than two years now, missing images is apparently is still not considered alarming by Google.
Users who encountered this bug complain of losing pictures despite successful backup on Google Photos. On confirmation of backup they deleted pictures from original device as well, relying solely on Google Photos’ cloud storage. Later on many pictures went missing. Top contributors at Google Photos forums recommend solutions/workarounds like Google-Takeout, Trash, Picasa etc. to recover lost pictures, but these did not work for all users.
The issue dates back to September, 2015 when it was reported for the first time. Since then the matter has been gaining heat with increasing number of reported cases. A quick look at the relevant threads in official Photos forums reveals that Google never bothered paying attention to this issue, as the company did not officially revert back to user queries. Due to lack of acknowledgment this problem still awaits a fix.
