AT&T announced last month that 5G would be made available for previous generation consumer unlimited and other legacy plans beginning March. Both 5G and 5G+ access were to be added to accounts at no extra cost.
These previous-generation plans include:
AT&T Unlimited & More
AT&T Unlimited & More Premium
AT&T Unlimited Choice
AT&T Unlimited Choice II
AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced
AT&T Unlimited Plus
AT&T Unlimited Plus Enhanced
AT&T Unlimited Value
AT&T Unlimited
This would be followed by AT&T Business unlimited plans that’d also get treated to 5G and 5G+ starting from April. AT&T says that this move was made to “reward their most loyal customers.”
But over a month later, there are reports of AT&T subscribers who are yet to get 5G provisioned on their grandfathered Unlimited Plus plans and no one is telling them the reason for the delay.
I’ve been patiently waiting for my plan to get upgraded. I don’t really have a real need for it but I find it frustrating that it’s taking so long. There is no reason a batch process can’t be run to upgrade all the lines that are eligible. I am not saying it all had to be overnight but it should not take a month to do.

On the brighter side, albeit with a few hassles here and there, one can get AT&T to provision 5G on their grandfathered Unlimited Plus plan, like this guy and several others did after getting tired of waiting:
After countless attempts, I’ve finally been able to get in contact with a rep from AT&T advanced technical support to provision 5G on my grandfathered unlimited plus plan. Before I was told I didn’t qualify or I had to update my plan and that the system didn’t allow it.

In short, the solution is rather simple. If you did not automatically get upgraded to 5G, then you might have to switch over to manual mode. This can be done by contacting AT&T technical support.
After all, AT&T is well past the original promised date stated for 5G conversion on grandfathered unlimited plans.
But if the above doesn’t help, then your last resort could be to simply wait for AT&T to make 5G available for your account. It could be that the provisioning is being done in a phased manner and you have been somehow saved for last.
