AT&T is a mainstream service provider. Back in June, this popular service provider introduced the helpful automatic call blocking feature. In its continued fight against robocalls, AT&T is now offering protection against spam robocalls using its new call validation displays.
This new feature is presently available only to a limited number of smartphones. As the name of this feature suggests, it lets users know whether or not an incoming call is really from the number appearing on Caller ID.
If a number is found to be valid, a green checkmark accompanied by the words, “Valid Number” will appear on the call validation displays.
Kevin Petersen, AT&T senior vice president, Postpaid Wireless Products, stated that:
“This is another step to tame annoying, unwanted robocalls.”
He further added that:
“In the coming year, we’ll continue to take more steps and put more pressure on the bad guys.”
It is worth noting that call validation displays is presently available to only Samsung Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and the LG V40 ThinQ. AT&T is using the SHAKEN/STIR standards technology to validate phone calls. Different service providers jointly developed this technology.
Anyone using the smartphones that were mentioned above will see the call validation feature on their device. However, if you didn’t recive this update due to some reason, you can manually turn-on this service by using the AT&T Call Protect app.
It’s worth noting that call validation displays is an entirely free service and users won’t be charged for using it. The only thing you need to do is update the software of your device.
AT&T has also stated that
A call that shows “valid number” has been verified and can increase your trust level. But a call without the label may still be a legitimate call. More calls will be marked with “valid number” over time, as more network providers implement SHAKEN/STIR and link to each other.
Lastly, call validation displays will be added to more mobile devices by the new year.
