[Updated] Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Android 10 beta 3 update reportedly breaks earphone sound quality (no bass)

The Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and Pro M2 have had a boatload of bugs and issues. We have covered the missing slow-mo video option, rounded corner bug and bootloop issues. Sadly, these aren’t the only issues users are dealing with.

Nonetheless, some issues can be boiled down to the fact that they appear only on the Android 10 beta version. Moreover, the very reason for beta testing software is to uncover hidden bugs and issues. And in that case, it seems ZenFone Max Pro M1 users are doing a good job finding bugs.

After installing the Android 10 beta 3 update on the ZenFone Max Pro M1, multiple users are reporting an audio bug. According to several reports in the ZenTalk forums (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), the sound quality via earphones has been affected negatively.

In their complaints, users have mentioned that the bass output has drastically reduced. Some users are also claiming that the audio quality from the device’s speakers has been affected. Since the number of reports is climbing, it’s unlikely that the problem is a result of a hardware defect.

This is because the issue only came into existence after installing the Android 10 update on the ZenFone Max Pro M1. Moreover, there does not seem to be an immediate fix and it’s yet to be seen if the problem can be fixed with an equalizer app.

Furthermore, Asus is yet to acknowledge the problem. So an early update to fix the problem is highly unlikely. Nonetheless, we hope Asus manages to iron out any bugs and issues before the release of the stable Android 10 update.
