[Updated] Asus ZenFone Live L1 (Lite L1) Android 10 beta (AOSP) update released (Download link inside)

Asus has released a surprise Android 10 build (AOSP version) for owners of the budget ZenFone Live L1 handset (model ZA550KL/G552KL).

The Taiwanese company has this habit of pushing unadulterated versions of the popular smartphone OS to those testing the beta versions of its OS upgrades.

Prior to the ZenFone Live L1 Android 10 AOSP build showing up, the ZenFone 5 also picked up a similar update too. Just like in the latter case, owners of the ZenFone Live L1 are warned against switching to this version if they are used to the in-house ZenUI skin.

Android 10 Developer version is now available for download. This is the Android 10 AOSP version, so the user experience will be very different from Android 8 (Oreo) and 9(Pie). If you are used to Android 8 (Oreo)/Android 9 (Pie) system, we will recommend that you use the current device version.

Asus is also quite specific that this firmware is meant for ZenFone Live L1 handsets with model numbers ZA550KL or G552KL, meaning those on model ZA551KL, popularly known as Asus ZenFone Lite L1 in India, miss out on this build. But someone says otherwise, as captured below.

Whether the story will also be the same when the stable version arrives remains unknown, but if you have the right model, the firmware is right below. Yeah, it needs manual installation (no OTA updates), so you’ll have to do it yourself, but it’s easy.

With the above file downloaded, installing the ZenFone Live L1 Android 10 package should be a walk in the park, if you stick to the steps below:

1. Place the downloaded ZIP file in the root directory of the phone’s internal storage. Don’t place it inside any folder.
2. Reboot your phone and check for the firmware update notification pop-up on the status bar.
3. Pull down the notification bar and tap “System Update File Detected…” and follow the steps shown to update the firmware.
