New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on June 22, 2020) follows:

It is always nice to get a new update on your device. This is because you are sure that your phone has improved somehow. You might not see any changes in the system like in the case of security patches but even those go to improve your system security.

Asus has been pushing out regular security patches to many of its devices and recently, the Asus Zenfone 5Z got an update to software version number 100.10.107.87.

This update brought with it the May 2020 security patch and a number of fixes to the device, among them, fixing ‘touch not sensitive at bottom of screen issue when playing game in landscape mode‘. More of that changelog here.

Sadly it appears as though this update did not quite fix all the display issues that users had been facing. According to affected users, the ZenFone 5Z’s touchscreen mistakenly registers extra touches even though the user only makes one touch with the panel. Multitouch is also affected as the panel registers jerky movement. More on that issue here.

According to a moderator on Asus’ forum, the company is investigating these issues

It’s under investigation. They fixed the initial bug. Shortly after realized that there was a 4 or more fingers bug. However, I see now that you have found two separate bugs. The single slide with simultaneous tapping bug and the very close three or more touch slide. I will add these two to the investigation.

A quick scroll through the same forum and you will notice that the issue is a bit more widespread as more and more ZenFone 5Z users are noticing that as a problem.

We can, therefore, only hope that Asus finds a way to plug these issues and address them once and for all in an upcoming update. Given just how active the moderators are on the forum and how quickly Asus pushes out updates to its devices, this shouldn’t take too long.

Update 1 (December 01)

04:15 pm (IST): Asus has begun rolling out a new update for the ZenFone 5Z in Japan carrying the software version 100.10.107.110. According to the release notes, the update brings new ‘touch panel firmware’. Thus, it’s possible that the touchscreen bugs might be fixed after installing the update.
