Asus ROG Phone Android 10 update wait goes on as new Pie-based security patch with speaker audio quality improvements rolls out

In the past few years, we have seen a new breed of smartphones that is geared towards the avid gamers. These devices defy traditional phone designs with their flashy colors and LED lights paired with top-of-the-line specs.

One such device is the Asus ROG Phone. This device was first unveiled back in 2018 and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. The ROG Phone ran Android 8.1 out of the box and has since been updated to Android 9 Pie with Asus’ ROG Gaming X UI on top.

At a time when all eyes are on the upcoming official release of Android 11, it is alarming to see such a beefy device lag behind by a whole version of Android. We have covered the state of Android 10 for the Asus ROG Phone here.

Generally, the Asus ROG Phone has been well-updated and most recently, we saw the device bag the May 2020 security patch. Today, Asus is rolling out yet another security patch to this device, this time the July 2020 patch based on Android 9 Pie.

This update which bears software version number 16.0420.2006.30 brings with it a few system enhancements along with the new Android security patch as highlighted in the following changelog.

As is often the case with updates from Asus, this too will be rolled out in batches, meaning it will hit various ROG Phones slowly over the course of the next few days or weeks. As such, users are advised to wait for the update to hit their eligible devices.

While it is good that Asus is rolling out regular security patches to the ROG Phone. we can only hope that the company makes up its mind and finally rolls out Android 10 to the ROG Phone which is what most users are longing for.
