Apple Music background randomly turns black

Apple Music users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) are experiencing an issue where the background suddenly turns completely black. Due to this, some seem to be confused about whether this is a new UX/UI change or a technical glitch.

The issue first popped up with the iOS 16.3 Dev Beta 2 update, and it still persists after the iOS 16.3.1 update.

A user on the Apple community forum says that when playing music from the Apple Music app, the background automatically changes to black.

It is also alleged that even after switching to light mode, the application’s background remains black. Some have tried changing the contrast and readability settings on their devices but to no effect.

It is also worth mentioning that a section of users actually likes the new change and wants the background to stay black permanently.

If you also want to make the changes permanent on your device, then head over to Accessibility > Display & Touch > High Contrast and modify the setting.

According to a Redditor, the background turns black automatically when an iPhone overheats. The normal or colored background gets restored once your smartphone cools down.

Potential workaround

We recommend that you restart your mobile device or let it cool down for a while, and then enjoy grooving to your favorite tracks.
