Apple CarPlay lets you use your iPhone in the car more safely and intelligently while you keep focused on driving.

It also gives you consecutive instructions, helps you make calls and listen to music, and more when you connect your iPhone to CarPlay.

However, it is not absolutely immune to various bugs and issues. For instance, we previously saw how navigation stopped working on CarPlay. And now it seems that Spotify is not working well with it.

Apple CarPlay users getting ‘Spotify is offline’ error

Apparently, some Apple CarPlay users (1,2,3,4,5) are reporting this issue where they are getting a ‘Spotify is Offline’ error on the app’s Home tab.

This popped up yesterday and I cannot figure out to fix it. Cellular data is on, Spotify is not in offline mode, music still plays. I didn’t change a single setting or update the app or my phone. One day it was fine, the next I got this screen.

Reports suggest that a handful of users faced the exact same issue in iOS 16.1.2 as well.

It seems that the rest of the functionalities of Spotify work perfectly fine on CarPlay. But it shows the error followed by the ‘You can play downloads from Your Library’ message.

The issue is quite frustrating as the app’s Home tab shows no content at all. Reinstalling the app or even resetting the phone doesn’t really seem to fix the issue.

Issue under investigation

It appears that the issue is with Spotify and the team has also acknowledged the same. It is currently being investigated.

Potential workaround

We have also come across a workaround that involves upgrading to iOS 16.2 update.

Had the same issue, then i updated phone software to 16.2, and restarted the app and it worked!

Since there’s no ETA for a fix, those affected can try the workaround mentioned above for the time being.
