Here’s the crux of the article in video form
Apex Legends, created by Respawn Studios and published by Electronic Arts, is still among the most popular Battle Royale games ever.
It is a first-person shooter with a reputation for having frantic gameplay. The game is accessible across a variety of platforms and also allows for cross-platform play.
But it seems that the game recently received an update and has broken the game as it keeps freezing for some players. We saw a similar issue with the Season 12 update which resurfaced with Season 15 update too.
Apex Legends freezing in Ranked matches on PS4 & PS5 consoles
A number of Apex Legends players (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) have now taken to social media platforms to report freezing issues with the game on PS4 and PS5 consoles.

This problem is said to have popped up with the Season 16 update. Players in diamond lobbies appear to exclusively experience this issue during ranked matches, where they get trapped on the loading screen before a match.
Those affected claim that while the game connects normally, it freezes as the countdown begins. Despite just being able to see the countdown screen, players can communicate with others as well as move their characters.
This occurs rather frequently (1 in every 4 or 5 games). Even when players try to restart the game, they are penalized for abandonment and are not allowed to resume the match (1,2,3,4,5,6).
Here’s how you can avoid abandon penalty
One of the players has shared a tip that can possibly help you avoid an abandon penalty. It involves not starting another game and waiting for your legend to die in the same game.
They also allege that these endless freezing issues have something to do with the DDOS defense system put in place by Respawn.
Unfortunately, Respawn Entertainment (the developers of Apex Legends) has yet to acknowledge or address the problem.
We hope that they become aware that the game is freezing for a number of PS4 and PS5 players and solve it as quickly as possible.
We’ll keep tabs on the latest situation and update this space as soon as we come across new information.
