Smartphone manufacturers come up with multiple methods to notify the users of the incoming alerts. Notification LEDs were quite popular until the attempts to maximise the screen-to-body ratio outperformed them.
Always on display aka AOD is another alert system, which shows a custom screen with notifications, time, weather, etc. while your device is asleep. Started as a complementary feature, it now overtook LEDs to become the primary idle alert mechanism on modern day handsets.
Being an iPhone user is quite painful in this regard because you don’t get the feature even with an OLED panel (take iPhone X for example). But you know, when the Cupertino company hinders your path, you can defy them through jailbreaking!
To recall, we did share with you a jailbreak tweak to enable true always on display in the past. What if you want something embellishing while the screen is asleep? That’s when you should check out AOD (available for iOS 12 & 13 on Packix repo).
The developer of the tweak has just teased AOD – v5.0 on Reddit with a video. Yeah, the new version hasn’t gone live yet. However, the number of upcoming features indicates it’s going to be a massive update. Have a look at the changelog below.
What’s new
- Add a new charging animation (with some options such as auto-hide when fully charged)
- Add alarm label
- Fix the bug that the weather information is not updated properly
- Fix the brightness issues
- Support CarPlay (not tested)
- Bug fixes
