Google’s smart TV operating system, Android TV, has been around since 2014 with a pretty large user base.
However, users have been facing a problem with the Android TV Home launcher showing ads on the home screen.
As per recent reports, users are quite annoyed with sponsored content (ads) showing up on their Android TV home screen.
To recall, Google launched the sponsored content initiative way back in 2019 as a pilot program for some Sony devices.
While the promotional content setting can be disabled on Android TV devices, it seems a recent Android TV Home update has added sponsored content to all devices.
Users are simply not liking this and are unable to find a way disable the ads appearing on their smart TV home screen.
It is, however, possible to get rid of sponsored content by uninstalling Android TV Home updates from the Apps settings and disabling the Auto Update apps setting in Google Play Store.
Also, those who want to ensure that sponsored content does not appear at all should also disable the automatic Android TV OS updates from the System update settings.
While this is not exactly a workaround, Android TV users facing problems with sponsored content can try it for the time being.
Moreover, Google has not made any announcements on the matter yet so it is unclear whether this problem is going to get addressed or not.
Hopefully, an option to disable sponsored content gets added to the Android TV Home app so that users can avoid any inconveniences.
That said, we will be back with more details as and when new information becomes available so stay tuned.
