Google’s latest Android Pie mobile operating system includes a new feature that allows you to copy text and images from anything on the Overview screen.

While it’s definitely a must have feature, sadly, not everyone with an Android 9 Pie-powered Pixel device has been able to use it.

That’s because the functionality has been limited to only English (US) language users. This means users’ had to change their phone’s language to English (US) to be able to use the feature.

Well, that’s changing now, as we are seeing reports from Pixel users that smart selection now works with some other languages as well.

The issue was reported on Google’s Issue Tracker website shortly after the 9 Pie update arrived in August.

We’ve been tracking the thread regularly, and this month, a couple of comments were posted on the thread saying smart selection now works with English (Australia) and English (UK).

Following are the comments in question:

Since the latest security update it is working again for me with language set to English (Australia)

Works for me now using English UK in The Netherlands (OG Pixel)

It looks like the September security update brought along this change.

Of course, not every report is positive. At least one user confirmed the feature doesn’t work in Polish yet. Plus, the one who started the thread complained about lack of German support.

So it appears that support has been expanded but is still limited to English language only, although we are yet to see confirmations from other English speaking users (like those from India).

Here’s hoping users of non-English languages also get the access sooner than later.

Rest assured, as we’ll let you know as and when that happens. Meanwhile, share your experience with the feature by dropping a comment below.
