New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on September 09, 2021) follows:

Android 12 beta 5 has been declared as the prelude to the final stable Android 12 release that will be going live in just a few weeks from now.

Platform stability was achieved with Android 12 beta 4 itself and the OS is now nearly complete with almost every issue addressed.

However, a beta is still always a beta and to have one without any bugs whatsoever is only possible in fairy tales and folklore. And Android 12 beta 5 is no exception to this rule.

It was only yesterday that Android 12 beta 5 was released and there have already been several complaints about the At a Glance widget not functioning as intended on the update.

My At a glance settings appear empty. Only switches but no text. On the launcher I only see the date and not weather.

The widget is a staple source of basic information like weather, traffic details, upcoming flights, and calendar events on Google Pixel devices. It can, however, also be added on every other device as it is a part of the Google app itself.

This feature is now not only not showing the weather but is also acting up in other ways.

It’s currently only showing the date for users and holding down on it to open up its preferences/options/settings menu reveals a blank page. The switches still show but there’s no text whatsoever.

Normally, it contains multiple toggles for stuff like calendar events, reminders, weather, weather alerts, and work profile.

Sure, you can’t tell which is which but the first thing you need to try is toggling everything on. If that doesn’t help, then well, there’s no workaround available at the moment.

Devices affected by the At a Glance widget broken settings and weather issue seem to include all Pixels that are running Android 12 beta 5.

Thankfully, folks were quick to post a bug report on Google’s Issue Tracker site, which has now been marked as assigned, meaning someone’s already working on it.

Further, a comment on the same report by a dev also says that they’ve passed the issue to the development team and will be updating it with more information as it becomes available.

We have passed this to the development team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.

It is unclear if the fix for the At a Glance broken settings issue on Android 12 beta 5 will be rolling out with an update to the Google app or with the next stable OS release, but we will be keeping an eye on the matter, so stay tuned to our dedicated Pixel Android 12 bug tracker.

Update 2 (September 13)

02:05 pm (IST): New developments suggest that Google might be planning to release the Android 12 stable update on October 4. This could mean that users may have to wait until then for a fix. Unless Google plans to release another beta build.
