[Updated] Android 11 update for ZenFone Max Pro M1/M2, Redmi Note 7, Poco M2 Pro & more arrives as unofficial LineageOS 18

Android 11, this is the new kid in the Android community. This new version of Android brings a bunch of new refinements and improvements to our favorite mobile operating system.

Being less than a month old, it is understandable (owing to Android’s market fragmentation) that only a few devices have officially bagged this new build.

Amid the frenzy that is Android OEMs struggling to deliver beta builds of their respective custom Android 11 skins to eligible devices, one thing has stood out; the Android Developer Community really can deliver.

In the few weeks following the official unveiling of Android 11, we’ve seen dozens of devices getting fairly stable builds of Android 11 through custom ROMs by the developer community.

Poco F1, Xiaomi Mi A2, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, OnePlus 3, OnePlus 5, OnePlus Nord, Nokia 6.1 Plus, the list keeps going.

LineageOS is the spiritual successor to the defunct CyanogenMod project. These guys have been building custom ROMs for a while and it therefore only follows that some Android 11 goodness is in the works from this team, right?

LineageOS 18 is the project’s upcoming Android 11 build and already, some decent work is underway, all with the aim of having stable builds soon.

However, since LineageOS for specific devices is often maintained by individual developers, it is hard to tell when exactly users will have official builds of the same.

Luckily, thanks to some awesome developers and maintainers, there are already a few early, unofficial builds for a number of devices. As a start, we have unofficial LineageOS 18 builds for almost 30+ devices with many more set to join this ever-growing list.

To recall, Android 10 was officially launched back in September of last year. We then saw early, unofficial builds of LineageOS 17.1 a few months later with the initial stable builds hitting eligible devices in early 2020.

If this kind of development continues, we might be seeing stable releases of LineageOS 18 for eligible devices pretty soon.

As is the case with any community-driven custom ROM program, this is, by no means, the comprehensive list of supported devices.

A good way to find out if your device will be officially supported is to look at the last two LineageOS builds. A device that’s officially received the previous two builds of LineageOS will most likely get updated to LineageOS 18 as well.

It is very impressive to see just how quickly we have received initial builds of Android 11 in form of custom ROMs. If this is any indication of what we should see with the rollout of Android 11, then good things are in store.

We can only hope that Android OEMs hasten the development of their custom Android 11 skins so we have Android 11 as the most rapidly deployed version.

Those who still own the Samsung Galaxy S3 and LG G2 can rejoice since both smartphones can now run the latest Android version, i.e., Android 11 thanks to unofficial LineageOS 18.0 builds. You can get the download links here.

Apparently, a user has managed to install an unofficial LineageOS 18.0 build based on Android 11 on the Samsung Galaxy S2 that launched all the way back in 2011. We’ve added the image shared by the user below:

Samsung Galaxy S9, S9+, and Galaxy Note 9 users with the Exynos models can get to experience Android 11 on their devices thanks to unofficial LineageOS 18.0 builds as per a new report.
