[Updated] Amazon Fire TV stuck on 'unable to update' error message for some users, fix in the works

Amazon Fire TV is undoubtedly one of the most liked streaming gadgets that offer an improved TV viewing experience by providing a ton of movies and series.

By simply connecting an HDMI cable to the TV’s port, one can instantly transform their existing TV into a smart one. However, it also exhibits various bugs and issues every now and then.

For instance, Amazon Fire TV Stick got stuck on the logo some time ago. We even saw how the Recast once stopped recording shows.

And now, some Amazon Fire TV users (1,2,3,4,5) are reporting an issue where they are unable to update their devices owing to an error.

Trying to set up my fire stick, connects to my wireless internet. Says can’t download the update. Stays on the gray screen and will not go past this, we’ve reset the modem and router. Reset the fire stick and power cycle the TV.

Whenever users connect their devices to WiFi, it tries to update the TV but eventually throws the ‘Unable to update’ error message. It has been ongoing for several weeks now and sometimes gets stuck on a black screen.

This is quite frustrating for users as the error message is preventing them from watching various content. You can check out the screenshot of the error message below as shared by a YouTuber:

Moreover, it seems that affected users have tried resetting the factory settings and disconnecting their TVs but to no avail.

Official acknowledgment

Fortunately, one of Amazon’s team members has acknowledged the issue and said that they are working on a solution.

Unfortunately, we haven’t come across a workaround that can help fix the Amazon Fire TV ‘unable to upload’ error.

We hope that the developers soon find the root cause of the issue at hand.

10:28 am (IST): Some Amazon Fire TV Stick users are again reporting (1, 2, 3, 4) the issue where they get ‘Unable to update your Fire TV Stick’ error.

Luckily, the support team has acknowledged this problem and said that their technical team is working to fix it.

01:51 pm (IST): Some Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K users are still reporting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) that they are unable to update their devices. Users say that they get ‘Unable to update’ error.
