Just in case you’re trying to get your head around why Amazon or AWS (Amazon Web Services) isn’t working for you, find solace in the fact that you aren’t the only one facing issues lately.
A quick look at the micro-blogging site Twitter conveys there are many other affected by the same issue.For a quick glance, here’s how some of the complainants word the problem:

Down detector – a popular service that gives information about live outages – also conveys that AWS and Amazon are indeed going through a glitch, as can be seen in the image below:
Any official word on the matter? Negative, as yet. We’re yet to locate a word from the official service channels or their social media handles. AWS Service Health Dashboard, however, conveys no service disruption at the moment.

08:47 am (IST): Amazon support has confirmed that they are aware of the issue and the team is working on it.

Update 2 (July 12)
05:35 pm (IST): This morning Amazon and AWS went down for many in the US, Canada, and UK region. While Amazon was able to address the issue in time, looks like it has resurfaced.
Downdetector conveys the service is not working once again in some of the regions as can be seen in the map below.
Update 3 (July 13)
It appears the issue has now been fixed as we don’t see any more complaints on the social media platforms like Twitter. Even Down Detector doesn’t show any user reports or outages. So it’s safe to say the issue has likely been addressed.
Update 4 (July 14)
An AWS PR team rep reached out to us to assert that AWS did not suffer any outage on the day Amazon’s website was down. In their own words:
AWS did not, in fact, have any disruptions yesterday when Amazon.com was down
In response, we have shared with them our basis of highlighting the AWS outage, and are awaiting more details from them. If and when we get a response, this article will be updated accordingly.
Update 5 (July 22)
IST 22:00 – Looks like Amazon is down again along with some other popular services, like UPS and HBO Max. At the moment, it’s hard to say what’s the reason and how widespread this outage is, but we’ll keep an eye and update this story as and when we come across anything newsworthy.
Update 6 (July 22)
IST 22:15 – It’s difficult to say if this is related, but Akamai, a popular content delivery network provider, has confirmed that it’s service is suffering a major outage at the moment.
Investigating – We are aware of an emerging issue with the Edge DNS service.

Update 7 (July 22)
IST 22:25 – Akamai has provided following info on Twitter:
We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated.
Update 8 (July 23)
IST 13:36 – The problem seems to have indeed been fixed since there are no signs of any AWS or Amazon-related outage around the world. Downdetect confirms the same:
Update 9 (August 07)
IST 11:09 – Amazon and AWS are once again having an outage. Many users have taken to report about the service being unavailable and Downdetector also shows a major spike in reports of both services not working.
Update 10 (August 24)
IST 11:57 – A flurry of new reports are streaming onto social media platforms, reports that indicate that Amazon is down. According to these users, they face an error message “Sorry, something went wrong, We’re working on fixing it.” It appears the problem is affecting iOS users only.
Downdetector is also seeing a lot of new reports and a spike in outage feedback from users.

Update 11 (August 25)
IST 08:40 am (IST) – It seems many people with iOS devices are still facing an issue with the Amazon application as reports on Twitter continue to pile up. Further, Downdetector also indicates a widespread issue with Amazon.
IST 12:16 pm (IST) – A section of Amazon users are reportedly facing an issue where the app keeps crashing with the CS11 error.
Update 12 (August 26)
IST 11:26 am (IST) – Amazon support is asking iOS users to update the application, clear cache, enable permissions for the app in the settings and also enable auto-update to fix the CS11 issue.

Update 13 (October 06)
IST 11:52 am (IST) Now reports coming in indicate that Amazon is having an outage. This, according to reports on Twitter.
Downdetector also shows a sharp increase in outage reports over the past few hours.
Update 14 (December 08)
IST 08:40 am (IST) Several hours ago Amazon servers went don’t which in turn resulted in many services being disrupted including Disney Plus, Alexa, and Ring, as highlighted by The Verge.
In the latest status update on the matter, Amazon has confirmed that many services have recovered already and the network device issues have been resolved. Currently, the company is working on the recovery of remaining impaired services.
Update 15 (January 21)
IST 01:17 pm (IST) Fresh reports indicate that many Alexa users in various regions aren’t able to use Amazon’s smart assistant as it has stopped working all of a sudden.

Update 16 (January 31)
10:16 am (IST): Alex is again down or not working for a section of users around the world. Unfortunately, Amazon hasn’t yet acknowledged this outage as of now and we’ll keep you updated with the latest developments as and when anything new comes up, stay tuned.

12:46 pm (IST): Fresh user reports on Downdetector suggest that Amazon is currently down or not working for many.

06:30 pm (IST): It seems that the recent issue with Amazon has been resolved as we haven’t come across any fresh user reports on Downdetector.
Update 19 (December 26, 2022)
08:45 am (IST): Reports on Twitter (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and Downdetector indicate that AWS is currently down and not working. This in turn has led to a lot of services that rely on AWS, such as HBO Max, to go under as well.
Update 20 (March 24, 2023)
09:25 pm (IST): Amazon appears to be down and not working for a section of users are they’re unable to access the website and get a ‘Your connection isn’t private’ error in some cases.
Downdetector also recorded over 1,500 reports indicating a problem with the Amazon homepage.
