Ahead of One UI 3.0 public release, Samsung apps getting preparatory update; Z Fold 2 may not get Android 11 any time soon

It is now almost a month since the official unveiling of Android 11. As expected, Google’s own devices are already running this new Android version and other OEMs are hard at work, preparing their respective custom Android 11 skins.

Samsung’s take on Android 11, One UI 3.0, has been in the works for a while now. We have a dedicated tracker to keep tabs on this upcoming skin and you can check it out here.

Excitement is bubbling in the Samsung community over this upcoming release and already, we’ve seen a few hints and teasers for this One UI 3.0.

We also know that Samsung is planning to start beta tests for One UI 3 sometime soon. How soon? Well, it looks like Samsung is already taking steps towards One UI 3.0 public release.

It is now surfacing that the Korean tech giant is already updating its first-party apps to support Android 11.

Sound Assistant, Task Changer, Clock Face, One Hand Operation Plus, Samsung Pay, and a bunch of other Good Lock modules have been reportedly updated to support Android 11.

As it turns out, Samsung is known to typically update its Good Lock modules once the builds are close to stable. In this case, it is safe to assume that public betas might be right around the corner.

Is this Samsung’s way of teasing the looming release of One UI 3.0 Beta public release? We certainly hope so. Sadly though, users of the Galaxy Fold devices might have to wait longer.

When asked by a user whether the Galaxy Fold2 was in line for an Android 11 (One UI 3.0) Beta build, a Samsung Ambassador says:

No sir. I wouldn’t expect that one soon. The fold needs the most time and care.

And he’s probably right. See, most modern smartphones are rectangular slabs with pretty similar aspect ratios. The Fold devices are drastically different in that, they adopt a different form factor.

It is, therefore, only reasonable to assume that it would take ‘time and care’ to tweak and optimize One UI 3.0, and any software for that matter, to best suit said devices.
