[Updated] Adobe Photoshop bug where double-clicking on files creates 'gude' logs still persists, fix on the way (workaround inside)

Adobe Photoshop is one of the most popular photo editing and graphics designing solutions used by millions of people worldwide.

The company frequently updates its products, introduces bug fixes for known issues, and innovates by adding new features to them.

However, some users are disappointed because of a persistent Adobe Photoshop issue in which double-clicking on a file creates a ‘gude’ log.

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9), some users are still facing an issue where double clicking a Photoshop compatible file does not open it and instead generates a ‘gude’ log.

Also, this file cannot be deleted unless the app is forcefully closed.

It is claimed that in order to open a photograph, one needs to open the application beforehand on their device. Some complain that they experience this issue whenever they attempt to open any third-party PSD files.

A forum member says that even though the issue was fixed with the version 24.1 update, it re-appeared with the newer version 24.1.1 patch.

The problem has been persistent for the past few months, and the developers are yet to fully resolve it.

Everytime I open a file and edite it in Photoshop, it puts a gude file in that folder that I cant remove until I close photoshop. This just started happening and has never happened before. Is there any way to prevent this from occuring? Its very annoying and constantly interrupts my work flow.

If I double click on a file (.psd .tga etc.) to launch photoshop, then a guide-date.log file is created (e.g. gude-2023-02-08.log) in the same folder as the file I am opening. This does not happen if photoshop is already open.

Some have even tried tinkering with the application’s settings, updating their GPU drivers and operating system, but to no effect.

Recently, an Adobe employee stated that the v24.2 update should fix this persistent issue. But according to one of those affected, the bug remains unfixed in the latest patch as well.

It is also worth mentioning that v24.2 update has not fully rolled out and is still not listed on a href=”https://helpx.adobe.com/in/photoshop/kb/uptodate.html” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”> Adobe’s official website. So, it looks like it might take a while before you can get your hands on the latest patch.

Fortunately, we did come across a potential workaround that may help solve your problem. It has been recommended that you uninstall your current installation of Adobe Photoshop and re-install the old version 24.0.

We do hope that Adobe resolves this annoying and persistent issue soon.

Having said that, we’ll keep an eye on the issue where double-clicking on files in Adobe Photoshop creates ‘gude’ logs and update this article as we come across any new information.
