Adobe Photoshop strobes or blinks black and white for some users after v24.3 update, issue acknowledged (workarounds inside)

Photoshop is one of the most well-known tools in Adobe’s collection of expert products that enable users to edit and customize a variety of images.

The software also receives new features and regular updates that introduce bug fixes for known issues and bugs. However, some updates rather create problems for users.

That said, Adobe Photoshop users (1,2,3,4) are now reporting an issue where the screen blinks (white and black) when they try to open a file or a photo.

After updating Adobe Photoshop to 24.3, I faced a situation where black and white blinks and I can’t operate at all just by opening an image file.

According to the reports, the issue popped up after the recent v24.3 update and is affecting the working space. Users are now unable to work on the software as the screen flickers constantly.

However, it’s not the first time we are witnessing issues with the software owing to an update. We previously saw freezing issues on Macs after v23.2 update.

Likewise, the strobing issue is making it difficult for users to carry out their work thus rendering the software temporarily useless. You can see the visual representation of the bug as shared by an affected user here.

Issue acknowledged

Fortunately, the issue has been acknowledged by the team. However, there is no ETA for a fix yet.

We have also come across some workarounds that can help fix the issue where Adobe Photoshop is blinking black and white. It includes the following steps:

Edit>Preferences>Technology Preview”
Check “Disable native canvas” OK and reboot to return to display

Since the issue popped up after the recent update, users are now rolling back to the previous version (v24.2.1) in order to fix it.

After messing around, I rolled back to 24.2.1 and it was fixed perfectly. I’m fine now

Those affected can also try restarting Photoshop after enabling the GPU and the ‘Deactivate Native Canvas’ option.
