It seems that the constant crashes and freezing issues are only limited to Windows and macOS.
Almost every action including adding a 3D effect, creating and saving a file, or even changing opacity triggers the said issue.
Users are incredibly frustrated because the app has basically become unusable now and stops responding every now and then.

In my network there was a problem with the DNS connection to my default printer. Apparently Illustrator tries to contact the printer in the network when it is launched. Because this failed, Illustrator crashed. The printer is now connected via IP and Illustrator works again as before.
