When it comes to image editing software, Adobe is clearly the industry leader. The company dominates the market so much that it amounts to more than 80% of the computer graphics and photo editing software used worldwide.
Of this, Photoshop alone contributes to somewhere around 36%, which makes it the most popular image editing software right now.
A few days ago, Adobe dropped support for 3D features including Spherical Panorama, and replaced it with a new product called Substance 3D with the Photoshop v22.5 update.
As a result, many had to switch to the older version of Photoshop since they used those very features.
Having said that, Photoshop users who updated the app to the latest version on macOS Catalina are saying that they are seeing artifacts when working in the Canvas Area.
It seems to be affecting the majority of users with Photoshop showing a weird ghosting background.
The visual glitch seems to be affecting multiple machines running Photoshop v22.5 on macOS Catalina, indicating that it is a bug with the app and is not limited to a certain model or graphic card.
Whenever I crop or move photos in Photoshop, I continuously get artifacts around the outside of the canvas. This has been happening since the last update. Any thoughts? Fixes? Thank you!

While the artifacts do not affect the file in any shape or form, it is really distracting if you trying to get something done.
Users are frustrated since the ghosting background is a real eyesore for anyone who works on Photoshop for hours. As it turns out, Adobe has acknowledged the issue and said that their engineering team is working on a fix.
In the meantime, Adobe employees have shared a workaround that might solve the Photoshop artifacts appearing in Canvas Area on macOS Catalina.
If the above steps do not work for you, you can try downgrading Adobe Photoshop to version 22.4.3 or upgrading to macOS Big Sur since it has drivers Catalina won’t be getting.
Our take is that Photoshop v22.5 has issues with the graphic drivers on macOS Catalina. We hope Adobe fixes the weird artifacts issue in the Canvas area for those running macOS Catalina.
When they do, we will update this article so make sure to keep an eye on this space.
