New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Aug 5, 2021) follows:

1Password is a popular password manager app that is available on multiple platforms such as Windows, Android, iOS, macOS and can even be installed as extensions on Internet browsers.

Like LastPass, 1Password remembers all your login information such as username and passwords and requires you to remember only one master password.

But unlike its competitors, the app requires a paid subscription and allows users to try the service for 14 days for free.

Having said that, 1Password users rarely encounter any form of bugs and issues with the app.

But lately, several users have reported that 1Password is incompatible with the recently released Magic Keyboard Touch ID feature on Mac when it is in clamshell mode.

1Password users are required to enter their master password in order to unlock the application. While this does not break the app in any sense, it is quite irritating to input the master password every time.

So @1Password if I have a MacBook Pro, with a external magic keyboard with touchID and the lid is closed, I see this… why? I can use the external keyboard touchID just fine in other areas of the system (to unlock, or in system prefs for example)

I can’t login to 1P app with my fingerprint on my 16″ MacBook Pro, but I can login to the mini with my fingerprint. Is there a fix to this?

Till then, users will be forced to keep their Macs turned on if they want to use the 1Password Touch ID feature.

Fortunately, the app developers have acknowledged the issue and said that they are working on a fix. However, there is no ETA in sight.

We hope the developers fix the 1Password Magic Keyboard Touch ID issue since a lot of people who use their Macs for productivity purposes keep it in Clamshell mode.

Update 1 (Aug 09)

While there was no ETA for the resolution when the issue initially surfaced, the 1Password development team is now saying that it is a “High Priority issue.”

This means that a fix will be coming in the next few days, so make sure you keep an eye out for the same!
