New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 20, 2023) follows:

YouTube TV is, along with YouTube Music, one of the products born from the most popular video platform in the world. The TV service boasts of offering attractive plans at competitive prices.

Like other TV platforms, it offers dedicated apps for multiple systems. For instance, Samsung Smart TVs (Tizen OS) have their own YouTube TV app.

However, it seems that YouTube TV app for Samsung Smart TVs has been showing multiple performance issues like ‘Freezing or not working’ and ‘Live guide’ not updating.

YouTube TV ‘Freezing or not working’ on Samsung TVs

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard of YouTube TV performance issues on Samsung Smart TVs. Last year we covered a bug related to the ‘rewind’ feature (which hasn’t been resolved yet).

Now, numerous Samsung TV users have been complaining that the app is suddenly freezing, forcing them to restart it (or even restart the TV itself).

I can’t believe it. Using YouTube TV via the app on my Samsung TV literally broke the network on my tv. I was watching YTTV and the stream starting buffering and then YTTV froze and then I had to exit the app and my network connection was broken

So price goes up again, yet there’s still no fix available for the constant live tv freezing for Samsung TV users after MONTHS of this problem being acknowledged? Awesome. 😞

There are also cases where the YouTube TV app simply isn’t working on Samsung TVs. People affected by this problem report situations such as black screens or error messages when trying to use it.

Terrible with Samsung

I downloaded YTTV app. The app went black on any channel I clicked on, and after digging through this sub I found that unplugging the TV worked. However, I did still notice that there was buffering issues and audio issues.

@TeamYouTube YouTube TV app isn’t working on Samsung TV model QN55080AAFXZA. TV Software is up to date – and is available on same WIFI network via Apple products. Tried unplugging, rebooting etc Have sent in multiple logs over 36 hours.

Live TV guide not updating as well

Another issue reported by some Samsung TV users is that the YouTube TV ‘Live guide’ is not updating correctly.

This problem causes the Live guide menu to not match the actual TV schedule, or even users losing options in the Live guide section.

@YouTubeTV Looks like your live menu isn’t matching up with what is on… Turner Classic and Freeform for instance

Samsung Youtube TV App not updating guide times

So I want to say about a month ago, I noticed my guide times were really off. No matter what I do, I can’t get the samsung youtube tv app to update/sync guide times with correct time.

It’s worth pointing out that these issues have been going on for weeks (or even months), and no official acknowledgment had emerged.

But now, a related official word from YouTube has finally surfaced. They claim that they are aware of the ‘issues happening on Samsung TVs’:

sorry to hear this! we’re aware of the issues happening on Samsung TVs and we’re already working on a fix. for now, make sure that your device’s software is updated + share a screenshot of your Stats for nerds to help us in the process. steps here: https://goo.gle/3TsfTQ2

So, although they do not specifically mention the issues they refer to, both the ‘app freezing or not working’ and the ‘Live guide not updating’ could be included, and a fix could already be in development.

We will keep an eye on new events that arise in the future to update this story.

Update 1 (Mar. 29, 2023)
