[Updated] Instagram 'Story highlights' removed, deleted, or keep disappearing? You're not alone

Instagram has many useful features that help content creators share their life experiences with their audience.

One such feature is the Story Highlights which allows one to save a story on their profile beyond the usual 24-hour time-period limit.

However, some are unhappy as they are facing difficulties in sharing highlights on their profile.

Multiple Instagram users (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10) are facing an issue where Story highlights keep getting deleted or disappearing automatically. Allegedly, some even get the ‘This story is unavailable’ error message.

One user says that their highlights frequently get deleted. Despite repeated attempts, the photographs disappear whenever they are added to their highlights.

Another alleges that adding stories from the archive to a highlight causes other stories to be removed as well. Also, if the problem-causing stories are deleted, the ones removed return on their own.

I can see all my story highlights but other people can’t see my highlights that have the song lyric effect on them. how do I fix this.

Some claim (1,2), that the issue pops-up only if one uses music along with the lyrics in their highlights.

The problem has been persistent for the past few days and those affected are now requesting the company to resolve this glitch.

We do hope that Instagram fixes this bug soon. But until then, we’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when we come across something noteworthy.

Hi, Recently, some stories, that i have posted in the past and added to my highlight, get removed from it. I then have to reselect one story and then all appear in the highlight again.

09:34 am (IST): A user said that they were unable to complain about this glitch as they got an error when sending the report, while another user who was able to send the report three times didn’t get any reply.

09:59 am (IST): A Redditor pointed out that they are also having trouble searching for songs to add in their highlights and everytime they search for a song, it shows refresh sign.

05:44 pm (IST): Given that certain Story highlights still contain music and lyrics, it suggests that the presence of music is not the root cause of their disappearance (1,2).
