Nest WiFi, the successor to Google Wifi is a quite popular line of mesh-capable wireless routers. However, some are unhappy as they are facing an issue with the product for the past few months.

Google Nest Wifi incorrect data usage stats in Home app

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple users have been complaining that incorrect data usage is reported on the Google Home app.

It is alleged that the data usage displayed is quite unrealistic and far beyond one’s normal usage. The issue has been persistent for the past few months and remains unresolved to date.

One of those affected complains that the Home app shows their 7-day usage as 726 GB whereas their ISP had recorded it as 135 GB. They also shared an instance when their single-day data usage was reportedly shown as 2170 GB.

Another user alleges that their backyard’s Nest cam upload data usage is shown to be 300GB, that too within a single day.

Why does it say i’m using so much data? it’s saying that my phone is using 90gb in one day and my desktop gaming PC used 900gb in one day even though i wasn’t downloading anything?

So according the app, my daughter used 1200 gb of download data with her phone on wifi over the last 24 hours. I’m not sure how that is even possible.

Google Nest owners are now once again requesting the developers to fix this issue.

Official acknowledgment

In last October, a Community Specialist on the Google community forums claimed that the company’s team was working on this issue. However, even after a few months, there is no update on the matter.
