Rainbow Six Siege is a high-intensity tactical shooter that emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and lethality. It’s the eighth year of the game, and the devs have added a new Battle Pass path system.
Branching pathways will replace the old linear system as players can now strategize their progression and obtain the rewards they desire faster.
Rainbow Six Siege FPS drop
The Y8S1 update, on the other hand, appears to be to blame for a new issue in which Rainbow Six Siege players are claiming severe FPS drops on PS4 and PS5 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).
Those affected claim that their game would start up smoothly, but then the FPS would suddenly fluctuate, causing lag and stuttering.
This happens during gunfights as well making it impossible to control gun spray, and in a few cases, players claim that FPS goes from 90 to 1 before returning to 40 and then 20.
This happens even after gamers have verified the game file, restarted their console, and updated all of their drivers and game to the latest versions.
Anyone else been getting the fps icon flash along with massive lag/choppy gameplay my ping is low around 20 but I don’t know what could be causing it whether it’s on my end or not.

Okay good, I thought me and my friend were the only ones. It’s literally unplayable 120 fps drops to like 40 every 10seconds or so

Unable to invite friends
Also, there appears to be a problem with the crossplay (1,2,3,4,5).
According to reports, there are several different varieties of this bug. Sometimes, a player might not be able to invite friends to their party and a ‘failed to do the action’ error message is displayed.
Other times when a person is in a group with another player or more, the game may indicate that the party is locked.
Occasionally, the message ‘invite sent’ appears but the invite is not delivered to another player, or lobby joining fails.
