YouTube frequently makes aesthetic changes to its platform with the aim of improving the user experience.

For instance, a few months back, it introduced a pinch-to-zoom feature allowing one to get a closer look at the video or something in its background.

However, this time, some users are disappointed with the recent changes made to the UX/UI of the platform.

YouTube ‘three videos per row’ issue

According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), multiple users are facing an issue where the YouTube homepage or the channel videos tab only shows three videos.

Before the recent change, users could see about 4 to 6 videos in a row depending on the screen resolution and PPI.

A user on the Google support forums complains that after the recent change the homepage now features large icons and fewer video links.

While another user on the forums claims to be facing this issue only when they are signed in with their personal account.

They also say that when they log in with a different account or use the website in incognito mode, the layout remains normal.

Users are unhappy because of this and have taken to the web forums to criticize the company’s move.

My youtube feed is showing 3 columns instead of 4 out of nowhere can i cant change it back, this only happens on my account too, dosent happen when im logged out

Not sure if its something I did or not but the youtube thumbnails have gotten bigger and I cant figure out how to shrink them. Can anybody help?

Some have even tried clearing out all the cache and cookies and then signing in again, but the problem could not be fixed.

It is also worth mentioning that such an issue has popped up in the past as well.

While YouTube has tested such UI changes in the past as well, we are unsure if this issue is part of some new testing or just a bug.

Potential workarounds

Fortunately, we did come across a potential workaround that may help solve your problem. Firstly, you can try switching accounts or signing out and logging in back again.

If that does not help solve your problem, then you can try customizing the website’s CSS on your end by using tools like Stylebot or Ublock Origin

We do hope that YouTube restores the old layout on its platform.

That said, we’ll keep tabs on the issue where ‘three videos per row’ are being displayed on YouTube and update the article accordingly.

Update 1 (March 10, 2023)

09:34 am (IST): It appears that this new change is now rolling out (1, 2) to more users and they aren’t liking it. In fact, some say they are seeing just 2 videos per row instead of 3.

Furthermore, a Redditor has suggested a tool using which you can change the number of videos per row.
