New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on September 19, 2022) follows:
At their yearly event on September 7, Apple unveiled the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Apple has undoubtedly raised the bar this year, especially with the new iPhone 14 Pro series, which is powered by the A16 Bionic, the fastest chipset, as well as a new camera system.
In the entire iPhone 14 series, Apple has brought ground-breaking safety features including Crash Detection, which can now identify a serious auto accident, and automatically phone emergency SOS services.
iPhone 14 & 14 Pro devices overheating
However, several iPhone 14 and 14 Pro users have complained that even with minimal use, their devices are overheating or getting warm (1,2,3,4,5,6,7).
It appears that some users of the iPhone 14 Pro Max are also experiencing a similar problem.
Owing to this problem, some iPhone owners claim that their handsets are constantly heating up, even when they aren’t running any CPU/GPU-demanding applications. Others assert that it warms up slightly.
This heating is usually generated from the right side of the camera bump or the top left corner of the iPhone screen. It then radiates all the way to the sides and users can feel it on the entire front of the screen.
An iPhone owner said that rebooting the device resolved the overheating issue, while another user suggests turning off the Always-On display.
Mine iPhone 14Pro Max is running very hot while charging & use at the same time. Even without charging, just browsing the webpage, the phone itself will feel warm. Is this normal?

Hi, I have a ton of iPhones from my family that use different chargers around the house. I setup my 14 Pro today flawlessly. Everything is perfect except no matter what charger I use, the phone gets exceptionally hot. So hot, in fact, that I get a message the phone stopped charging die to overheating. Anyone have this issue?

Furthermore, some users claim that a new iPhone will likely run hotter and consume more power to load updates for a few days, at least until things stabilize.
Fortunately, it appears that the issue is not widespread, so potential buyers need not be discouraged from purchasing the new iPhone 14 series.
We’ll keep tabs on further developments and update the article as and when something noteworthy comes up.

Update 9 (October 17, 2022)
01:15 pm (IST): According to one of our readers, the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro overheating issue persists even after updating to iOS 16.0.3. Turning off Always-On Display and closing all apps don’t help either.
Also always on display has been turned off, and I’ve closed every app. Updated to 16.0.3 and it still didn’t fix the issue. Also on the fast charger it got extremely hot, like I’d assume close enough to melt solder joints
Thanks for the tip: Stephen J Williams
06:54 pm (IST): Some users claim that the heating issue is more common while fast charging with a 20W brick. Using the 5W brick doesn’t result in the phone getting warm.
I’d say my 14 pro never really gets remotely warm with light use. Just a little warm when charging with 20w Apple charging brick but nothing crazy. I use 5w charging brick over night and never gets warm

Those having overheating issues can can try using it to see a difference. However, you do lose on the charging speeds.
