Adobe Photoshop 2023, the latest version of the popular image editing software, has been facing an issue with its Perspective Warp tool, which has been causing images to appear upside down.

The bug has been reportedly (1,2,3) inconveniencing several of those who have been using the software to edit images.

PS 2023 transform “warp” issue
In previous versions of PS, if you right-click while doing a free transform, you can access the warp tool and it works just as you’d expect. In PS 2023, though, every time I try to warp a transform selection, the software doesn’t recognize my first drag and, on my second drag, it inverts the selection vertically! Has anyone experienced this? Is there a new option I’m not aware of?

According to an Adobe employee, the Perspective Warp issue seems to be limited to older GPUs that are between 8-13 years old, among them NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 680 and Quadro K1200 as well as AMD’s Radeon R7 200 series.

The bug has been reported by several users on various platforms, including Reddit and Adobe’s community forum. Some users have even shared screenshots of their images appearing upside down after using the Perspective Warp tool.

Official acknowledgment

The Adobe team has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix. In the meantime, they have suggested a workaround for those facing the problem.

Engineering is looking into this issue. As workaround, go to Preferences > Technology Previews… and enable “Older GPU mode (pre 2016)” – Restart Photoshop.

The workaround involves going to ‘Preferences’ and then selecting the ‘Technology Previews’ option to further enable ‘Older GPU mode’. Restart Photoshop when done and that should be it.

The workaround has been tested by several users who have reported that it works. However, some have also reported that they still face the issue.

It is worth noting that this issue only affects a small percentage of users who are still using older GPUs. Those with newer GPUs or integrated graphics should not be worried about this problem.
