Original story (published on February 17, 2023) follows:

TikTok recently unveiled a new live five-day trivia competition called TikTok Trivia. This is for users in the US who are 18 years of age or older where they get a chance to earn a $500,000 prize pool.

It’s a game show where users can earn prizes by answering questions related to fashion, music, sports, and other topics. These trivia rounds will happen each day starting February 22 to February 26.

However, a number of users (1,2,3,4,5,6) are absolutely overwhelmed by the incessant TikTok Trivia pop-ups and are unable to get rid of the same.

I’m getting really tired of this tiktok trivia thing. Tapping the x doesn’t make it go away. I’m not interested @tiktok_us @TikTokSupport how do you opt out?

Is anyone else having this issue? Im getting this trivia notification at the top left and it’s freezing my FYP and following page. I also can’t get any sound to come through even if I hit the X button on the trivia pop-up. Is this happening to everyone else??

Reports suggest that even after constantly hitting the close button (X) on these prompts, it doesn’t really accomplish the same.

Some are even convinced that TikTok is desperately trying every user to try Trivia games and that’s why sending these notifications again and again.

It is incredibly frustrating as it is even getting in the way of their timeline and keeping some of them from seeing posts and videos of their followers. For reference, you can check out the video below:

Potential workaround

Fortunately, there is a workaround that can help users get rid of this TikTok Trivia pop-up. Users can try switching to portrait mode.

Literally same. I think you have to not be in landscape mode for it to work right though. (Not sure)

TikTok hasn’t really done or said anything about the issue at hand so affected users can try the workaround mentioned above.

We hope that the team takes hints from these reports and stops over-advertising Trivia pop-ups.

We’ll keep tabs on the latest developments and update this article as and when something noteworthy comes up.

Update 1 (February 20, 2023)

03:28 pm (IST): TikTok is being called out for their new Trivia game where some users (1,2,3,4) are considering it an HQ Trivia clone.
