Here’s the crux of the article in video form

For years, Discord has established itself as one of the most versatile and useful messaging tools in its segment. However, this does not mean that it is perfect.

Discord users usually report some bugs or issues that negatively affect the experience. For instance, we have covered crashing issues after updates, or occasional outages, among others.

Now, some Discord users have been reporting a ‘file cannot be empty’ error message when trying to send files.

Discord ‘file cannot be empty’ error acknowledged after several weeks

According to Discord users affected by the bug, the ‘file cannot be empty’ error message appears randomly and with no apparent explanation. It can even appear when trying to send files that you have already sent before.

Cannot post pictures?

I was trying to send a picture in my friends server and it came up with a message saying ‘file cannot be empty’ and after this came up I haven’t been able to post a picture in any other server. I had posted the picture in other servers just minutes before hand.

@discord lately I can’t upload images anymore getting the error message “upload failed – file cannot be empty” on my iPhone 12 Pro. Uploading the same file from my iPad works – reinstalled, cleared cache etc but problem persists. Any solution?

There doesn’t seem to be a particular reason for the error, as it just happens randomly when trying to send files. There is also no workaround to help prevent the glitch from happening.

It’s worth pointing out that the issue is not exactly new. There are reports about the same bug for at least a couple of months (1, 2), but there was still no official word about it.

Fortunately, the Discord team has finally acknowledged the bug. They also revealed that they are working on a fix, but there is no ETA for it yet.
