Set in the ninth century CE, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla makes players lead Eivor’s tribe of Norsemen over the frigid North Sea to the wealthy lands of England.
Although it has been a fun and exciting adventure for many, some players are unhappy due to some persistent and unresolved issues.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla ‘The Ulfberht Sword’ quest bug
According to reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10), some players are still facing difficulties while trying to complete ‘The Ulfberht Sword’ quest.
In this quest, gamers have to head to the Rhine River in search of a champion with a sword. Also, in order to battle the champion, one needs to first defeat his two captains who are stationed at military bases around the river.
However, some are unable to proceed to the quest’s next stage even after defeating both of them. It is alleged that the game fails to register the kill.
A player on Twitter also complains that the game does not recognize the killing of the captain at Katzenelnbogen and repeatedly asks them to find him. Also, they are unable to restart the whole raid.
This is a last straw for at least saying that I tried everything. River raids is bugged, I killed the second captain for the Ulfberht and nothing is happening, it’s stuck saying that I still need to take out a second captain.

Some players are annoyed as their old save game file got deleted and now they may have to play the game from the beginning.
Gamers have tried resetting and restarting the game multiple times, but even that does not help them complete the mission.
The issue has been persistent for a few months now, and the developers are yet to resolve it.
Official acknowledgment
Luckily, the Ubisoft support team on Twitter has officially acknowledged the issue and is currently investigating it. Although, no official ETA for a bugfix has been provided.
Potential workaround
Fortunately, we did come across a potential workaround that may help solve your problem. A gamer on Reddit has suggested that you first kill the captain at Katzenelnbogen and then proceed with the assassination of the captain at Fort Ehrenfels.
We do hope that Ubisoft resolves the bug soon.
