[Updated] Twitter's new 'For You' tab as default on iOS criticized by many

Owned by Elon Musk, Twitter is one of the most popular social media and microblogging platforms, witnessing participation from around 30 million active users.

The platform had a timeline that aimed to show users tweets based on their preferences and the people they follow.

However, Twitter recently launched a new feature for its iOS users called the ‘For You’ tab, which is now a default tab on the timeline.

It now shows the tweets that Twitter thinks are most relevant to you based on certain parameters. The change is facing criticism from a lot of users who are calling for it to be reverted.

Twitter’s ‘For You’ tab

Reports (1,2,3,4,5,6,7) suggest the recent patch has sparked a lot of criticism from users who are not happy with the default ‘For You’ tab. Some users are frustrated and want the previous version restored.

The update replaces the usual feed that users see when they open Twitter on iOS with the ‘For You’ section, which is an algorithmic timeline.

Several users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the change and are asking Twitter to revert the update and make the ‘Following’ tab the default instead.

All in all, Twitter’s update has not been well-received by some iOS users, and they are calling on the company to revert the change or give them an option to choose the default tab.

It remains to be seen whether Twitter will respond to the criticism and make any changes to the update as they have not yet acknowledged the matter.

12:23 pm (IST): In response to a user regarding the drop in engagement on Twitter, Elon Musk said that they have reverted the ‘For You’ algorithm that was previously showing a lot of tweets from users people didn’t follow.

An update to the For You algorithm included too many tweets from people users didn’t follow. That change has been reverted. (Source)

01:28 pm (IST): Twitter now lets you default to either ‘For You’ or ‘Following’ tab on Android and iOS. You just have to update the app to the latest version.
